This spa has been in use since the time of the Romans, who constructed baths here, where sulphur springs issue medicinal waters at a temperature of 32º centigrade. The water has hypothermic, hyposaline, bicarbonated, sodic, sulphuric and salicylic properties and is recommended for those who suffer from skin diseases, rheumatism, arthritis, intestinal disorders, and stomach complaints. In the middle of the 19th century the baths were modernised, destroying almost completely what remained of the Roman spa. The modern facilities are located inside a shady park on the right bank of the River Ave and are equipped with an up-to-date hydrotherapy unit, a covered swimming pool, a keep-fit gym, a sauna and a solarium.
